Bella, then let's hope they figured it out wrong! My heart goes out to you, this is so unfair.

WELL! Boss just called me. Wants me to come in tomorrow and talk with him. I've "been a good employee for 5 years, he has high expectations of me. He wants to give me another chance, and wants me to give him another chance." I STILL HAVE A JOB!!!!!!

YES!!!!! Excellent news, Bellantara!!! You really must discuss with him the need for a procedure that has him reviewing your work before it gets filed. NOTHING that has his name on it should go to the court without him reviewing it first!!

Congratulations. That's got to be a huge relief for you.
Sounds like once he got the filing right, he stopped and thought about what he'd done and what he'd lost.
This might be a good time to work with him and the rest of the office to put some sort of safeguard into place so it can't happen again.
If you bring it up before he does, )particularly if you have some ideas how to implement those safeguards), you'll be even more valuable.

Rock On Bella,
Secure that high ground and hold on tight. I still say go in with guns ablazing. Have that QC proposal mapped out and sock-it-to-em up front.
If it were my decision, I would go back head heald high. And descreetly prepare a job search. If the dust settles and you are comfortable remaining, seniority hath it's comforts. If you feel like you are still walking on eggs months later, you will have your shopping underway. It is always better to move from strength.

This will be a good learning experience for you both, Bellantara. You don't want to be in a position where what you are doing crosses that fine line into the unauthorized practice of law. Tell him that you are uncomfortable with being put in that position and urge him to make the necessary changes, just as CBM said! *doing happy dance*

YAYYYYYYY!!!! (And I should jolly well think so, too!) It even sounds like he might be feeling a bit sorry for the way he's treated you, if he said he wants YOU to give HIM another chance too! (As, again, so he should!) And I agree so much with KW and CBM; to suggest a way of improving the filing system so this doesn't happen again is a good way of turning this sow's ear into a silk purse and proving how silly he'd have been to let you go. And, as Ailuromaniac says, no harm in discreetly searching round for other jobs in case you should come across something better...

Great news, bella, mama doing happy dance and hope all works out for you, please keep us posted! Much love, Lynn

Brilliant news Bella, it was a real knee jerk reaction (with the emphasis on jerk) from the boss. Head high girl.

Sounds like the jerk got his comeuppance -- or karmuppance, as my angel mother would say.
Getting a process in place is a great tool for your meeting, and I am so glad you got your job back! That was a rude and rotten thing for him to have done. You don't take away a person's career because of one fixable mistake. That is remarkably stupid and vicious.
However, it does sound like a sense of shame kicked in at some point, and he realized that he was a jerk. There is also the good possibility that the rest of the office clued him in to this fact.
Head high, sweet lady! You won!

*whew* I just read through all those posts and I'm so relieved to have read about a happy ending!!! I agreed with the others that said that once he had time to cool off, your boss would come to his senses and call you... I'm so glad and happy for you!!! :)

Now might be an excellent time to mention the raise you were hoping for? ;)

So happy for you dear. What a terrible day! This has been one of those days where everyone I talk to is having a terrible time! Whew...glad your boss is being reasonable...I know in your line of work mistakes can be big trouble but really you're only human and surely even the boss had made one or two in his day. Glad he's giving you another chance. :D

YAY! Congratulations! I am so happy for you!!

Just popping on and then off to bed and I saw this. I am so relieved for you Bellantara. I like how ailuromaniac says it..which basically in a nutshell says give the job a good college try while researching new job opportunities and reassess in 3-6 months. If in that time you are okay, you will have shown your boss that you can be professional but if he continues to be an idiot/jerk, then it is time to accept a new job. Hugs to you.

Bellantara, I'm so relieved to hear the good news! Bringing a plan that will eliminate the chance of this happening in the future will be a very good thing, indeed.
And I'm with Ailuromaniac; discreetly get your ducks in a row. Make sure any important personal things are not at work on your computer, but are brought home. Position yourself to seek a different job within the year. It's altogether too possible that your boss may make a similarly rash decision in the future.
(The time to be looking for another job is when you still have one, esp. if the market for paralegals is good in your area.)

Y'know I read through pages 1 & 2 getting more and more angry at Mr Perfect...then get to page 3 and PHEW!!! Belle, what a rollercoaster few hours. Really, really pleased Boss has realised he overeacted, hope all goes well when you meet. The TDK vibes must have got to him!!!

What wonderful, wonderful news! I saw your original post before going to bed last night and said a special prayer. Can't wait to hear how the meeting goes!

Hoorraaaayyyyy!!!!! I'm glad that your boss finally came to his senses.
I agree with the others...play it cool for now, walk into work with your head high, have a plan in place so this mistake can be prevented, and start looking for another job. Sounds like boss can be an extremely volatile person to work for -- you shouldn't have walk on eggshells at work.

Bella, so glad you are going to talk with the boss. I hope that by now things are worked out and you are resuming your duties.
