Gatakitty, as a long time follower of Army football, I will tell you without question that you are completely wrong. And anyone who follows academy football would know that you are wrong. When Coach Sutton was at Army they had the best seasons in the history of Army football. And annually won the Commander's Trophy. But, politics reared its ugly head, Coach Sutton was dismissed and a favorite of a current administration was brought in. And that began the demise of Army football.
Never disparage the Army team unless you know all of the facts. Of course I know the brilliant history of Blanchard and Davis. I have been associated with West Point for over 40 years. But they were in no way the hey day of Army football. If you know a great deal about Army football, then you will know who "Saint Peter" is without me having to tell you.
I am proud of the Army team. While they may not excel on the football field, they do excel on other fields. The ones that each and every American should be proud of and grateful for.
You should know this about the Army fans - we love the team for what the Academy represents. Can Army recruit the way other teams can? No. Because to play for Army you not only have to play football. You have to have a brain. I am so incredibly proud of these young men and women. Frankly, I don't really care what they can do on the football field. I care more about a life time of service that they provide to this nation. Am I biased? Damn right. I am married to one of them.
