  2. I'm with you Emma and I tried the above link but it doesn't work. There seems to be a problem with it.
I'm so upset over this...What sane jury member wouldn't throw the book at this man?

    Cat Killer Jury Deadlocked!

Jurors deliberating the animal cruelty case where Joseph Petcka is on trial for killing a domestic cat named Norman are deadlocked, according to the AP. "Manhattan jurors sent the state Supreme Court judge a note Tuesday, saying they are at an impasse after two days of deliberations," but the judge "ordered the jury to return" tomorrow morning. Petcka, 205 pounds, had been using a victim defense, claiming the 7-pound, declawed cat attacked him. His lawyer believes this means "at least one juror is insisting the prosecution proved its case," which is for felony animal cruelty.

  4. I just sent an e-mail, Emma, urging the ASPCA to do whatever they can to convince the court to prosecute this--I have no words--again if the jury can't reach a verdict and a mistrial is declared.

He says that the cat knocked him down! He weighs over 200 pounds and the cat weighed 7! What kind of fool can't see that he's lying! If he got knocked down at all, it was all the alcohol he drank that did it!

  6. The only way I can cope with this is to think of Norman at the Bridge--whole, healthy, and happy, and waiting to be taken across by someone who always wanted a kitty and could never have one.

This is the kind of thing that makes me wish I was able, and allowed, to cast spells on people.

  7. I sent an email as well to the above email address this morning...I can't believe that anyone would think this poor animal's death was "unintentional"..I really hope that the jury somehow pulls it together and gives this guy the maximum the law allows..just sickening

  9. The one thing I take comfort in is that, if that ****** ****** doesn't get what he deserves in this life, then he will get it in the next life, and what he receives in the next life will be far worse than anything anybody could do to him here.

  10. At least the Judge is making them keep at deliberation and testimony readbacks are scheduled for tomorrow. Someone also needs to read them the statute

    353-a. Aggravated cruelty to animals.
    1. A person is guilty of aggravated cruelty to animals when, with no justifiable purpose, he or she intentionally kills or intentionally CAUSES SERIOUS PHYSICAL INJURY to a companion animal with aggravated cruelty. For purposes of this section, “aggravated cruelty” shall mean conduct which: (I) is intended to cause extreme physical pain; or (ii) is done or carried out in an especially depraved or sadistic manner.

If he did not intend to kill Norman, he certainly intended to cause extreme physical pain. You do not beat or kick an animal severely enough to rupture internal organs and break bones without intending to cause extreme physical pain drunk or sober.

If the charges were only modified to describe Norman as the 6 yr old son of the girlfriend, he would not be looking at 2 years and fines but life.

  11. Exactly right; what if it was a 7lb baby crying in another room while he was in his drunken stupor? (shudders at the thought)

  12. I am still shaking. If it were a child, my God, the country would be in an uproar.

But evil was done to a small, loving creature that could not possibly fight back with a fraction of what was done to him, by a jealous bully.

What Joseph Petcka did was hideous. If they set him free, it is a miscarriage of justice.

And it means that the lives of the small and helpless are not worth much.
