I have a now seven week old kitten that is very sick. We found him out side of our house and had to take him to the vet right away his rectum was outside of his body. He had surgery and got it fixed. We were told he is only about four in a half weeks old. A week later he collasped I took him to the vet, te vet told me I should just have him put to sleep I refused so they did what they could and we found out he is anemic so we had to give him medicine and make sure he ate every day. This morning he collasped again so I did what the doctor told us too in case it happen again. Has anyone else ever have this problem? If so what do I do? We give him sugar water when ever he gets bad and some times have to feed him through a dropper. Anyone got any suggestions on what we could do to make sure he does not collaspe again?

WJ, all I can suggest is that you continue giving him food, water, and medicine through the dropper. If he continues to collapse, though, it may mean that there is something seriously wrong with him that cannot be fixed, and it might be kinder to him just to let him go to the Bridge.

Sugar water might be appropriate if he had insulin issues but I don't think it would provide anywhere near enough nutrition. You are wonderful to try and care for this little baby. But I would make another visit to the vet. As Leeny says, sometimes there is simply no cure for what is wrong.
Please keep us posted.

The vet told us to give him sugar water. The sugar water is because he is Diabetic, so if his insulan gets low he will collapse. He is in another medicine too for the anemic. He is doing much better right now up playing and eating on his own again. I called the vet and she said just to keep on eye on how much he is eating and drinking to make sure it's enough.

Hi WJ, welcome to TDK, sorry you've found us in such traumatic circumstances. Sounds like the vet is keeping tabs on the situation, hope you're able to keep your kitten well after all your careful nursing.

You need to work closely with your vet, if this kitten is to be kept healthy. This kitten needs to eat frequently, probably at least 4 times per day at his age.
Diabetes at such a young age is difficult (assuming that other illnesses have been definitively ruled out). It could be type I or type II diabetes. If it's type I, insulin injections will be needed daily. If it's type II, it may be able to be controlled with diet.
A high-protein, lower-carbohydrate diet should help. (Since it's for a kitten, it should probably be relatively high-fat, too.) Make sure to keep track of how much water the kitten's drinking, too, especially if he seems thirsty all the time.

Prayers that your kitten improves and you discover his needs quickly..a special needs kitten will require much more attention and regimented feeding program than most. Especially one with diabetes. Please keep us posted and welcome to TDK..wish it was under happier circumstances. :(

I wanna thank everyone for your advise. I wish I could post a picture of Miracle so everyone could see him. He is on a diet of only soft kitten food so he gets the nutrients he needs, we also buy the cat's milk for him and give him plenty of water too. He eats very little hard kitten food cause the vet said we should slowly start him on the hard stuff.

Sorry I have not posted lately. Miracle had another attack on Saturday but again we got him right out of it. He has not had another on since then which is really good. Almost a week straight with out one, it's the longest he has went since we got him. We have him started on hard food now but only a little a day. He still gets his soft food, plus he gets the Cat's Milk now. He is also litter training and doing really great. Thank you too everyone. I will keep you all updated also there wil be a new pic in my profile of him.

I want to all thank you with all the advise. I wanted to let you know Miracle is doing great! He has not had an attack in over two weeks now and has finally gained some weight. He acts like a normal kitten now, contantly playing and attack everyone feet.

Wow, that's great news! I hope he continues to thrive. With all the TLC you're giving him, he's got a fighting chance of growing up healthy. He will also likely be a devoted kitty.
