After graduating law school and starting my first lega job, I realized that my desire to adopt a kitten may finally materialize. I began my search on petfinder.com, spending hours each week browsing kittens and cats; inquiring, e-mailing, and visiting several kittens and cats that were being fostered locally. I didn’t settle on the first kittens I saw but ultimately fell in love with a single, three month old, ginger boy who was found abandoned in Philadelphia just before Halloween. It was like, if not love, at first site, and I instantly decided he was the kitten for me. We had an instant connection and I left his foster mom’s home ecstatic to pick him up the next day. However, we had a few hurdles to overcome once Pocket was adopted – he had a lingering ringworm infection on his right ear, had a run -in with a bigger, older cat that left him with a scar on his nose & lip that looked similar to a cleft palate, and had transmitted an intestinal parasite that required antibiotics for several days. During the first week though, despite having to overcome some illnesses and a rough start in life, Pocket was lively, loving, and seemed beyond happy with his new home (and family!) He quickly adapted to his new mom, grandparents, and even gained an aunt and uncle (just four and six years old!) who quickly fell in love with him too. He’s only been with me a short time, but I already know he’ll be a lifelong companion, and am so glad I decided to adopt him.

This is Riley, he should have been named BRAT. He’s been everything, but what I wanted in a cat. He’s on the cupboards, walks on the end tables and knocks off anything that is in his way. He is always picking fights with his older sister, and goes 100 MPH when I come home from work. He knows he’s loved and will always have a home, I just hope he calms down and becomes the lap kitty I wanted.

I recently moved out of my parent’s house and found myself living without pets for the first time. I had to leave my nineteen year old cat with my parents because she cannot see or hear well anymore and a move would be too much for her. I really wanted to experience having a kitten again. Because I am at work all day I wanted to adopt two kittens so they would have a playmate while I was gone. I adopted Story and Dibley, brother and sister, from a local cat rescue when they were nine weeks old. They are three months old now and have settled in nicely. Story is very clever and a bit of a bully to her brother. She likes everything on her own terms, she will let me pet her and will sit on my lap but only if it is her idea. Dibley is a goof and a real sweetheart; he was first to warm up to me and is slo wly starting to stand up to his sister.
