My very active 1.5 month old kitten Smokey got dewormed yesterday. She has been very lethargic and sleepy. She pooped perfectly and normally the first day, but today, she seems to be pooping mucus like substance, immediately after which she voluntarily drinks a lot of water herself.

Sleeps a lot. Vet advised me to give her glucose water every half hour for energy and give her soft boiled egg.

Exactly after deworming, the kitten is acting lethargic. So I am sure its the dewormer making her sick. How long will this last and how to get her to eat something? 🙁

Priya, hopefully it will only last for a day or so. I don’t like the sound of the mucus very much though, but at least she’s drinking. If this continues for more than about 12-24 hours, I would be thinking about getting her back to the vet. The important thing is to keep her fluids up which is why it’s so good that she’s drinking plenty of water.

Do you warm her food gently? This makes it easier to smell and more appetising for cats. You could also try something smelly, such as tuna or fish. Which country are you in, it makes a difference to what’s available to help you. Best wishes for Smokey, let us know how she gets on.

The mucus-stuff is the lining of her intestines thats shedding off – usually it happens when there are a lot of hookworms present, so it just means the dewormer is doing its job. She should perk up in a day or two.
