My heart was broken when my Sparky was lost. My daughter, Molly — a foster mom — had a five-week-old kitten that needed special attention because of conjunctivitis. She thought my caring for him might fill the hole in my heart. Sure enough, after a short while I decided I couldn’t let him go. Smudge has never meowed, but makes tiny, short, soft, squeaks. He is quite fearless and very rambunctious, but a great snuggler. It’s great having a little kitten energy fill the house again.

I certainly understand the heart break of losing a cat friend. Luckily for us, there are so many more out there needing good homes and loving attention. So glad to hear you and Smudge found each other just when you needed each other most. Enjoy the fuzzy snuggles 🙂

Oh, Smudge looks like a rough n tumble guy and very sure of himself. No one can replace Sparky but Mr. Smudge brings his own specialness to his furever meow mom. May you have many squeaky, cuddly years together.

Thanks for all your comments and good wishes. Smudge is now battling ear infections, perhaps a throw-back from the conjunctivitis. I wonder if that’s why he doesn’t meow? We’re aggressively getting treatment for this. He’s so sweet, it kills me to think of the pain he must be in. Smudge loves to sleep close to my face, or sometimes ON my face. He’ll bank his back leg on my nose for leverage!
Smudge is so handsome! I just know he is doing is best to help your heartbreak. Perhaps he carries a bit of Sparky in his heart for you.
Bobosmom – Sorry Smudge continues to have health issues. I hope his ear infections clear up & he is super healthy afterward. My.Graycie meeps & rarely ever meows, but I’ve never been told anything is wrong with her hearing. Smudge is very cool looking, like a gray lion. All the best to you both!
there is an old children’s book named smudge w/ lovely kitten illustrations, but smudge was a black version of your smudge. you should look for it.
Sorry about the loss of Sparky, I know the feeling. There’s always room for another in our hearts and Smudge has a place there now. Best of luck for you both…maybe Smudge would like a sister? Two are even more wonderful.
